Kermit Sandhills
located about 10 miles Northeast of Kermit, TX. Take I20 to
Monahans, TX. North on hwy 18 about 25 miles to Kermit.
Turn right on hwy 115 (E Austin Street) go about 10 miles.
Turn left on hwy 874 and the camping starts on the right.
There are no facilities so bring
plenty of water
and TP.
There is no charge for riding or camping, find a spot and claim it.
I am taking a guess from the google
map it looks as if the dunes are 35 sq miles.
With my GPS coordinates from the main parking area (N 31*57.275
W102*58.173)
to the west as far as we made it (N 31*57.506
W103*02.622) it is about 5 miles.
From the main parking area (N 31*57.275
W102*58.173) to the
farthest North
that we made it to (N 31*59.168
W102*59.000) it is about
2 miles with alot more to explore.
